  Welcome On October 1, 2010, the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) was stood up as the nation’s first federal health care center, a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. The combined VA and Navy mission is to serve Veterans, active duty military, their family members, and military retirees. The facility’s namesake is Captain James A. Lovell, a retired Naval Officer and NASA Astronaut. "Jim" Lovell is famous as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, which suffered a critical failure en route to the moon. He was also the command module pilot of Apollo 8, the first Apollo mission to enter lunar orbit.
